I love incorporating the holidays into purposeful curricular activities. In this post, I will share my favorite Valentine’s Day math activities for kindergarten or first grade.
Valentine’s Day Math Activities: “Heart-Heart-Whole”
This “Heart-Heart-Whole” Valentine’s Day themed resource was created to introduce students to number bonds, or part-part-whole. Use it for a math center and then have your kids create the flip craft for an instant bulletin board.
Valentine’s Day Math Center
This resource includes all you see here. Students choose two heart halves, place them together, and find the sum. You can have them use candy hearts or cubes as counters. Once they add the parts, students match it with the whole number card. They can also use the worksheet to record their number bonds.
You can cut out the heart halves as shown on the right side in the above photo. However, an easier NO PREP option is included for busy teachers like you! Simply print and cut straight on the lines as shown below.
Valentine’s Day Math Bulletin Board
This resource also features a bonus math flip craft complete with bulletin board lettering. Students choose two numbers for the outer heart. They find the sum and write it in the heart on the bottom. Display with the “Heart-Heart-Whole” lettering, and you’ve got the perfect February bulletin board for Valentine’s Day.
