Winter Break is just never long enough!  I’ll admit it – I struggled a bit going back this past week.  One thing that always makes the transition a little easier is planning a fun and engaging craftivity for the kids like the ones I’ll share in this post.   Here are seven ideas for January Bulletin Boards in your Kindergarten or First Grade classroom.  Each resource includes a writing or math activity plus a custom craft to math.  Let’s dive in…

New Year’s Time to Shine Bulletin Board

First on the list of ideas for January Bulletin Boards is my New Year’s Time to Shine Resource.  This set is perfect for the week after break.  Students create disco ball writing flip crafts writing about how they will shine in the New Year.

Happy New Year Bulletin Board

Another idea for a New Year’s Bulletin Board is this resource that includes differentiated custom writing templates.  Students write a New Year’s resolution, intention, or goal.  They color the paper topper craft to math.  The finished writing pieces and crafts will look amazing with the sparkly bulletin board letters!

Snow Globe Bulletin Board

Next up is one of my winter favorites – If I lived in a Snow Globe Bulletin Board.   Take your students’ photos, have them complete the writing prompt, and add the display letters.  You can also brush over the snow globes with this Glitter Glaze to add a little sparkle.

Marshmallow Math

Now, let’s add some math into the winter mix with this Marshmallow Math resource.  Students create a marshmallow math story problem using real marshmallows as counters.  Upon request, I have added an editable template for you to customize for higher level addition or subtraction story problems.  CLICK HERE for all the details on Marshmallow Math.

Chillin’ With My Gnomies Bulletin Board

Last year, I had a request from Marcy @joyfulkindergarten on Instagram to create this Winter Gnomes Themed Bulletin Board.  I’m in love with how it turned out in her classroom!  This set comes with a parent letter, gnome templates to decorate, bulletin board letters, gnome writing templates, and a class book cover.

Snowmen at Night

In addition to winter gnomes, these Snowmen at Night are pretty adorable too!  Students write about what snowmen at night might do.  They love creating these snowman crafts.  This display is one you can leave up all winter long!

Dr. Martin Luther King “We Have a Dream” Display

Rounding out the list of my top 7 January Bulletin Boards is this “We Have a Dream” Resource.  Celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King by having students write about their own dreams for the world.

I hope this post has inspired you to implement some of these ideas in your own classroom this January.  If you have tried any of these activities, I would love to hear from you in the comments below.
