My Top 10 Thanksgiving Ideas for Kindergarten and First Grade…

1.  RHYME TIME TURKEYS

So this might just be one of my all-time favorite bulletin boards!   Create the cutest RHYME TIME TURKEYS this Thanksgiving in your kindergarten or first grade classroom. This makes for the perfect November Bulletin Board display! Choose from 20 word families. Teacher tips, display lettering, and directions are included.  You will not be disappointed with this resource!  It’s a great way to reinforce rhyming, phonemic awareness, and encoding while integrating art at the same time.

2.  WE ARE THANKFUL BULLETIN BOARD BUNDLE

Easy…Simple…Cute…That’s just what we need this time of year, right?!!  Simply choose from various differentiated writing templates, print onto white cardstock, and you’ve got your writing lesson for the day.  Students write about what they are most thankful for and color the turkey template.  Display lettering is included in this resource as well.

3.  TURKEYS IN DISGUISE BULLETIN BOARD BUNDLE & FAMILY HOMEWORK

If you don’t assign family homework, you need to start.  The best part is that the students do the work at home, and you’ve got an instant bulletin board!  This resource includes a family letter with directions, your choice of turkey body templates for your kiddos to decorate, and display lettering shown.  I love seeing how unique each turkey looks.  You can also make this into a contest if you wish by having the teachers vote.

4.  TURKEY 10 AND 20 FRAMES MATH CENTER

These Turkey Ten Frames and Twenty Frames are a great way to introduce or reinforce 1 to 1 correspondence, number identification, and addition and subtraction. Simply laminate the 10 or 20 frame mats and number cards, and you’ve got an instant math center for November!

Students may play in pairs or in small groups.  Each player gets a turkey 10 or 20 frame.  Playing cards are placed face down in the center of the table.  Students take turns flipping over a card..  All players must build the number in their frame.  When the next player goes, students must decide whether they need to add or subtract to build the new number.

I also print out another set of turkey number cards, hole punch them, and have my students attach the number of links to match the number shown on the card.

You get two math centers in one resource!

5.  PILGRIM WRITING AND CRAFT BULLETIN BOARD DISPLAY

This Thanksgiving Pilgrim Craftivity is another one of my holiday favorites. This package includes Pilgrim boy and girl craft templates as well as 7 choices of writing pages. Print the templates onto card stock, and let your students do the rest!  Teacher Tip: I have my kindergarten students complete this craft with their 5th grade buddies. It’s a nice way to get together with our buddies before Thanksgiving, and the older kids are great helpers with the cutting and assembling of this craft!

6.  NOVEMBER NO PREP JOURNAL WRITING PROMPTS OR WRITING CENTER PAGES

Writing Workshop for the month of November is complete!  This monthly Writing Prompt Packet includes:

  • Monthly Writing Binder Cover
  • 25 writing prompts in print-dotted font so that beginner writers gain practice writing the letters correctly
  • 2 differentiated formats/versions to use pages in the form of a journal or as individual pages at your Writing Center

My monthly journals and my yearly journal bundle have been featured in the TPT blog.  Check them out!

7.  TURKEY TRACING HANDWRITING INSTANT WRITING CENTER

My kindergarten students can never get enough handwriting practice!  Have your students work on their handwriting and letter formation this Thanksgiving with these NO PREP turkey letter tracing pages. This resource includes 26 A to Z pages in black and white. Each page shows the letter, proper letter formation, and uppercase and lowercase dotted letters for tracing. Simply print onto bright colored paper, laminate or place in dry-erase pockets, and you have an instant write and wipe center.

8.  WE ARE THANKFUL CLASS BOOK

Do you create class books with your students?  If not, you NEED to start.  They are, by far, my kids’ favorite writing activity!  It gives them a sense of ownership because THEY are the authors and illustrators!  They read them again and again!  This resource allows you to create an instant Thanksgiving Class Writing Book for your classroom library in your kindergarten or first grade! The package includes 4 cover options along with your choice of student writing paper.  You can laminate the pages and bind them or place them in a binder with the pages in sheet protectors.  I do the second option and place the cover in the binder window.  At the end of the year, I pass back all of the pages my little authors have created!

9.  NOVEMBER MATH JOURNAL

This resource was recently added to the November Bundle.  Like the writing journals, this print and go math resource provides 20 pages of math for the entire month.  These journals are great for morning work or math workshop.  They are also great to have on hand for a sub!
